The Art of John Alvin
2014, Hardcover, 160 pages, Titan Books
http://johnalvinart.com

Widely regarded as the go-to artist for movie poster and campaign art for over thirty years, the late John Alvin began his professional Hollywood career in 1974 with the poster art for Mel Brook's "Blazing Saddles." His career featured projects for such directors as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Blake Edwards, Mel Brooks and Ridley Scott. John Alvin said that his work "created the promise of a great experience" and that certainly can't be denied.

In all, John Alvin created the posters for over 135 movies in a 35-year career before he passed away in 2008.

Now, in celebration of John Alvin's life and work, Titan Books has released The Art of John Alvin. This gorgeously illustrated hardcover book chronicles the career of this fantastically creative artist. Concept and final artwork from movies like "Phantom of the Paradise," "E.T.," "Blade Runner," "Gremlins," "Jurassic Park" and many more (including several Disney films) treat readers to a treasure trove of eye candy with which most cinephiles will discover they share a nostalgic connection.

Written by Andrea Alvin, artist and wife of John Alvin, and with a foreword by Jeffrey Katzenberg, The Art of John Alvin earns a hearty recommendation. Not only for its lavish illustrations, but for the glimpse into cinematic history it offers.
